Breeders Cup News New Sprint & Stayers race on cards |
|
Breeders Cup 2008 gets a new sprint and maybe a stayers’ race The Breeders Cup 2008, to be held at Santa Anita on a new all-weather track, will be bolstered by the addition of a new sprint race. There is also serious talk of adding a stayers’ race to the Breeders Cup two-day fixture and the betting is that it is going to happen. The addition of both races would see a total of 13 Breeders Cup races in total. D-day is December 7 when The Breeders Cup officials meet to go through the details. The Breeders Cup supremo, Greg Avioli, said that the new sprint race was a certainty. The only aspect to decide was the exact distance. It might be over 5f or 6.5f. Avioli also indicated there would be a concerted effort to get more European horses participating, after only a small foreign team turned up at Monmouth Park in 2007. Breeders Cup officials will also discuss where the Breeders Cup 2009 will be hosted.
